Sherry is Clayton’s favorite bartender and unequivocal object of desire. Although he knows his attraction to her is hopeless, he seems unable to let it go and rarely shows interest in other women as a result. Sherry doesn’t seem to like Clayton very much but at times she is friendly enough to warrant speculation that her coldness is a facade.

Miriam is Clayton’s friend, bartender, drinking companion, and on one idiosyncratic occasion, his would-be amorous encounter. Clayton ultimately chose not to “close the deal,” and although he initially regretted it from a how-could-I-blow-this-one standpoint, he seems content to resume their relationship as-was. Clayton counts on Miriam to keep his glass filled, engage him in witty repartee, give him something pleasant to look at, and to keep his secret passion for writing a secret.

Araceli is one of Clayton’s drinking buddies. He finds her attractive but harbors no illusions about her, and rarely even acknowledges her somewhat flirtatious demeanor towards him. But he likes a lady who can drink, and it certainly doesn’t hurt if she can enrich his fantasy life as well. Araceli fits the bill.

James is a drinking buddy of Clayton’s. As James doesn’t generally show the contempt for him that many others do, Clayton enjoys his company, and can relate to some of James’ unsavory qualities.

Clayton would much rather have Sherry or Miriam tending bar than John, but he seems to think John’s okay regardless. Clayton generally appreciates anyone who will listen to him.

Clayton doesn’t care for Steven. It’s probably jealousy, considering Steven’s relationship with Sherry and Clayton’s unrequited desire for her.

Clayton is also rather unimpressed with Chuck, perhaps sensing Sherry’s attraction to him. It’s also possible that Clayton doesn’t like anyone who he perceives as having better luck with women than he does. Doesn’t leave out a lot of people.

Clayton has only recently become aware of Rod, but he likes him. Clayton likes anybody who will buy him a drink.
