Chuck is James’ best friend and roommate. They seem to enjoy making disparaging comments at each other’s expense as much as they do any other activity. At times James will begrudgingly admit his attitude toward Chuck goes beyond mere tolerance. On the other hand, he owes Chuck a lot of money.

James took awhile to warm up to Miriam, and for the most part his attitude towards her has never risen above room temperature. He’ll admit she’s a hottie, and that’s about it; on the other hand he sometimes seems to seek out her company.

James admires John’s basketball skills, and seems to enjoy spending time with him even off the court. John seems to bring out James’ compassionate side; it would be hard to imagine James volunteering at a homeless shelter with anybody other than John.

Clayton is James’ drinking buddy. James can relate to Clayton’s who-cares-what-anyone-thinks attitude.

James was attracted to Araceli the first time he saw her, and that was before he even saw her face. The fact that she’s not attracted to men probably helped him rationalize her rejection of his advances, and anyway, if you’re willing to have a drink with someone who looks like Clayton, you’re certainly not going to avoid drinking with someone who looks like Araceli.

James has acknowledged that Sherry is attractive, but as she has shown no particular interest in him, he has no particular interest in her, either. Just to be fair about it. He did jump at the chance to work in her bar, however.
